IPDP is a progressive professional training and certification program covering the concepts, workflows, and engineering practices involved in designing and building Internet of Things (IoT) products — from sensing, embedded firmware, and connectivity through to cloud architecture, edge intelligence, and production. The levels progressively develop participants from foundational IoT and embedded concepts, through professional embedded firmware engineering, to advanced cloud and edge AI system design.
Foundations of IoT Product Development introduces the fundamental concepts and workflow required to understand and begin building IoT products, guiding participants from the physical world of sensors through the complete four-layer IoT stack — Perception, Network, Middleware, and Application — to a working, cloud-connected demonstration. The level focuses on establishing a strong conceptual foundation in sensors and microcontrollers, wired and wireless communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, Wi-Fi, BLE, LoRa), firmware fundamentals (GPIO, setup/loop structure), and the MQTT publish/subscribe model used to move data from the edge to the cloud, combining theory with a live smart-attendance demonstration. It also introduces the broader IoT product design lifecycle — requirement analysis, concept development, scalability and security, energy efficiency, component selection, schematic and PCB design, proof of concept, testing, and manufacturing — giving participants a full-picture understanding of how an IoT product moves from idea to production.
Embedded Firmware Fundamentals builds upon the foundations established in Level I and develops the practical, hands-on skills required to write, debug, and deploy real embedded firmware on physical development hardware. The level focuses on C/C++ and bare-metal fundamentals (interrupts, DMA, stack vs. heap), major MCU architectures and vendors (ARM Cortex, RISC-V, Xtensa; Nordic, Espressif, ST, NXP, TI, Microchip), toolchain and IDE setup, and hardware debugging (ST-Link, JTAG vs. SWD, GDB), while introducing professional firmware structure through proper driver and application separation. It is intended to help participants move beyond conceptual understanding toward a systematic, professional embedded firmware workflow, culminating in a complete hands-on application that integrates and reads a real environmental sensor over I2C on a development board.
Cloud & Edge AI for IoT Products advances participants into the specialized considerations involved in taking a connected device from a working prototype to a production-grade, intelligent IoT system. Where Level I introduced the cloud and application layers conceptually and Level II built the device and firmware, Level III closes the loop by building the cloud infrastructure and adding intelligence at the edge. The level focuses on cloud architecture and provisioning (broker/IoT Core setup, device provisioning and security, certificates and TLS, secure boot), data pipelines (structured payloads, device shadow/state sync, time-series storage, live dashboards), over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates, and Edge AI / TinyML — running lightweight machine learning models directly on constrained microcontrollers for tasks such as anomaly detection, classification, and sensor fusion, combining theoretical concepts with practical system design considerations. It is intended to help participants understand and apply the advanced cloud and edge engineering practices required to manage data, security, scale, and on-device intelligence in production IoT systems, including fleet management, observability, and security hardening for deployed devices.
